I'll put this to a vote.

The speaker elected will oversee parliament next term.

When voting, you can't actually SAY who you're voting for... even tho we all know which one is your choice ;)

CJ; You do know my surname is also Miller....

Anyway, this has gathered enough votes to be passed. I hereby declare that I'll be the speaker during the next parliament.

This is the last day of Parliament and then it's dissolved for the election.

So let me get this straight. The people will be electing who they think should be the next Prime Minister, but technically, the King can appoint anyone?

That's how I understand it anyway, and that's how I think most systems like ours work in the real world.

That is correct, but, the King or Queen of the UK hasn't overruled the public for hundreds of years, in fact, back when they would have last done it; only wealthy land owners were allowed to vote anyway.

It's a check and balance system and pretty much just makes up a formality. It's like how the Queen checks Laws and signs them off.

I'd personally rather have a Presidential figure to do that job in the UK, but that's just the way things are.
